About a month ago, we reported on the new video game ‘Toy Soldiers: War Chest,’ a capture-the-flag type game which pits four toy armies against one another: WWI Era tin soldiers Kaiser Wilhelm and his period troops; fairy-like Starbright and her “girl toy” pals; Phantom, a space soldier and her high tech squadron; and the swords-and-sorcery forces of the Dark Lord.  These various collectible playthings are squaring off over possession of their respective War Chests (toy boxes).

But the real treat was the revelation that additional armies would be available as add-ons– four altogether– and the first two were none other than toy titans G.I. Joe and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!  Fans were left wondering what other franchises would make up the other two armies, but now they have been revealed.

The first is a no-brainer, COBRA the “ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world” that served as the fang in G.I. Joe’s collective side in the mythology established in comic books and the hit cartoon series that accompanied the hit 80s line.

The second is a bit of a surprise, ‘Assassin’s Creed.’  ‘Assassin’s Creed’ of course, is a hit video game series on its own right and there have been toys made based on it, but for one thing it isn’t really for children and it isn’t a classic toy archetype or an 80s property.  Even so, the medieval weaponry– crossbows and catapults– add another type of army to the mix.

You can see these newly revealed forces in action in this trailer:

Not included is Skeletor and his henchmen from Masters of the Universe, but then again, if this game is popular enough, there could always be additional teams added.  This could potentially open the door for more nostalgic toy brands, as Mattel has just announced that the Thundercats are being integrated into its current subscription-only ‘Masters of the Universe: Classics’ line and Hasbro is adding M.A.S.K. to ‘G.I. Joe.’

The basic ‘Toy Soldiers: War Chest’ game retails for $15, but only includes the four original armies.  The G.I. Joe, COBRA, He-Man and Assassin’s Creed armies are add-ons that sell for $5 each or $15 for all four.  A complete version with all eight armies, the ‘Hall of Fame’ edition, will be available for $30.

The game will be available on August 11th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Will you be going to war?
