Prior to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Television revealed two massive additions to their acclaimed Netflix series ‘Daredevil.’ While the Man Without Fear already has his hands full with people like the Kingpin and other street-level thugs, he’ll have to step his game up because the Punisher and Elektra will be coming for him as well. Before the con, the House of Ideas revealed that ‘Walking Dead’ alum Jon Bernthal and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ star Elodie Yung would be playing the iconic badass characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when they appear on the popular streaming service next year. But ahead of their live-action debuts, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer recently shared his thoughts on the two new additions to Hell’s Kitchen and the impact that they’re sure to make on the show.

Brian Michael Bendis isn’t the only comic book creator getting excited for Marvel’s upcoming slate of Netflix shows. While speaking with IGN at SDCC, Joe Quesada talked about the big things coming to ‘Daredevil’ next season. With Frank Castle said to be playing a big part in the next chapter of Matt Murdock’s life, one could see how it might be difficult to balance two amazing characters together in one show. Well, the CCO doesn’t seem to think that it’s impossible, especially with the showrunners and the actors involved:

“That’s why we pay our amazing Writers Room the big bucks. Doug Petrie and Mark Ramirez, the co-showrunners, have concocted an amazing series, an amazing season this year and believe me, sparks will fly and it’s going to be pretty phenomenal.

We’re so happy to have Jon Bernthal because we have such a world-class cast on Daredevil; we have a world-class actor in Charlie Cox that we want to make sure we chose and were able to attain an actor who is on that same level so I think the combination of seeing Charlie and Jon perform those parts on the same screen. It’s going to be epic, absolutely epic.”

Quesada, who has an intimate understanding of Marvel and all of its characters due to the nature of his job and his long-running comic book career, had similar praise for Yung as she prepares to portray one of Daredevil’s most dangerous “acquaintances”:

“I can’t say enough about Elodie Yung. Literally, we scoured the world for the right Elektra and, man, she is the character. She looks like the character, she walks like the character, and then she has the martial arts training and stunt background that she can rely on. It’s going to be really, really awesome to see her take over the role and see how she embodies and how she personifies Elektra. But again, another world-class actor who I think is going to bring something really special to Daredevil. And I think we established a really good tempo with Season 1, so fans can hopefully expect much more of the same.”

Even though it’s his job to talk up the company and all of its projects, Quesada has always been a fan of the material, so these comments don’t come lightly. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while longer to see if he’s right about Elektra and the Punisher in the second season of ‘Daredevil’. But while we wait, share your initial reactions to the castings and your overall impressions of the show so far in the comments below.
