Just yesterday we reported that Geoff Johns had confirmed that the original Flash, Jay Garrick would definitely appear on ‘The Flash’ Season Two, following the not-so-subtle appearance of his famous silver and gold helmet in the Season One finale.  Garrick will arrive to warn the show’s existing Flash, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) about an impending threat.

Now comes word that ‘Masters of Sex’ and ‘American Horror Story’ alum, Teddy Sears will don Garrick’s winged helmet for the series.  Executive producer Greg Berlanti admitted, “This year we will be introducing characters from Earth-Two,” referencing the parallel world that traditionally served as the home of the company’s heroes that originally appeared in the 1930s-40s.

As for the reasoning behind choosing Garrick to appear, fellow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “He’s never been portrayed to our knowledge in live action. Now that we’ve established our Flash, we thought it was interesting to bring on the original Flash and create a brand new relationship for Barry to have.”

Sears joins ‘Gang Related’ and ‘The Messengers’ actress Shantel VanSanten, who has been cast as Patty Spivot, Joe West’s new partner who will also serve as a new love interest for Barry, mirroring the current comics in which Barry and Iris are not involved.  Patty is described as being “spunky, fun, and funny” and has a keen interest in metahumans.

That’s not all the news about Season Two that was revealed at SDCC!  Now that Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) is history (pun intended) who will menace the show’s protagonist and his pals?  Comic favorite Professor Zoom.

Kreisberg cautions that Zoom is faster than either The Flash or Reverse Flash, which should make him a formidable threat.

Also zipping into the cast?  Wally West, the nephew of Iris West in the comics.  As a young teen, he endured an accident almost identical to the one that gave Barry his powers… and gained identical powers.  Wally took on the identity of Kid Flash, Barry’s sidekick for years and served as a longtime member of the Teen Titans, until Barry’s death in the comics.  At that time, Wally took his mentor’s identity and carried on his legacy as a member of the Justice League.

On the show, obviously certain changes will be made, as Iris clearly doesn’t have any siblings.

‘The Flash’ was an instant hit with fans!  Can Season Two possibly surpass the first?  They seem to be starting off on the right foot!  (Yep, another pun.)

It’s still a ways off until fall, so to tide you over, here is the SDCC Season One highlight video.  Enjoy!
