We haven’t even seen the first of ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ but we already haven’t seen the last! Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate are apparently so impressed by what they’ve already seen of Vin Diesel‘s new action fantasy flick– due in theaters in October– that they’re already moving forward with development on a sequel.
Directed by Breck Eisner (‘The Crazies’), ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ stars Diesel as an immortal warrior named Kaulder who must protect humanity from the forces of the supernatural, namely with the Witch Queen played by Julie Engelbrecht, who returns to the modern world for revenge. The film also stars Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Michael Caine.
The studio hopes that getting an early jump on a sequel will allow them to have one in theaters shortly after the first one, provided it proves to be a hit.
Diesel posted this message on his Facebook page:
Fantasy movies can be hit or miss. Some are massive hits, but others are spectacular failures. The modern setting of ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ could help lure viewers who aren’t exactly caught up on their ‘World of Warcraft.’
Diesel is a proven star with the smash ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise to his credit as well as a voice role as Groot in one of last year’s biggest hits ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ not to mention the ‘Riddick’ movies. Will audiences be willing to check him out in a new action role?
