Before Geoff Johns, the Chief Creative Officer at DC Entertainment, and Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, became two of the biggest names in comic book movies, both men worked at the production company run by Richard and Lauren Shuler Donner. Now that Johns and Feige are off producing things like ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Green Lantern’, the Donners are still producing the X-Men movies for Twentieth Century Fox, including the upcoming films ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

Crave (via Comic Book Movie) recently caught up with the pair of producers and asked about their X-Men projects. Lauren Shuler Donner revealed that ‘Days of Future Past’ is “coming along”, but “not quite fast enough”. The more interesting Marvel tidbit, however, is when the subject moved towards an Avengers/X-Men onscreen team up. Here’s what the producer had to say when the interviewer brought up the idea of the X-Men and the Avengers being in the same movie:

Now that The Avengers has done so well, it seems like the other studios with Marvel properties can see the advantage of making a deal. Can you see a world where this generation of X-Men could be in an Avengers movie?

Lauren Shuler Donner: I would love it. I would love it. I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige, because Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written, yeah, absolutely.

It’s quite a shame that all these Marvel movies can’t co-exist in one unified universe since they’re being made by different studios, so I’m glad to hear that those involved are willing to do crossovers. Now it’s just a matter of the money being right, but if that happens, we definitely could see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine fighting alongside Chris Evans as Captain America. Or maybe we’d get an adaptation of the recently concluded ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’!
