After Marvel Studios announced their line-up for Phase Three a few months ago, Kevin Feige explained how ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ would differ from its source material. Basically, he outlined a scenario that didn’t so much hinge on the secret identities of superheroes, but rather who they report to. When the first synopsis for the sequel to ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ was released, we saw that this was indeed the case, but what other changes are being made when the acclaimed comic event from Mark Millar and Steve McNiven makes its way to the big screen? A new report filled with possible spoilers has surfaced that has potentially revealed some new details for the Star-Spangled Avenger’s next solo film.

As the name suggests, ‘Civil War’ will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes divided between two sides lead by Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. Based on their roles in their respective franchises, it’s safe to assume that Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Don Cheadle will be starring in the upcoming Phase Three film alongside Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. and you could probably guess who ends up on which side. We also learned that Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye would factor in as well. And then there’s the whole Spider-Man situation. But that they can’t be the only heroes taking sides right? According to JoBlo, we’ll also see Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, and the Vision take up arms against their allies in the Russo brothers’ next Marvel movie.

With all these super-powered individuals in play, the biggest question is “Whose side are you on?”. The report says that the teams look like this: Cap, Widow, Hawkeye, and Falcon (who should be unveiling a new costume closer to his comic book counterpart) vs. Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, and Ant-Man (who is said to be unveiling his Giant Man powers in this film). There’s currently no word on Wanda Maximoff’s allegiances, but the Wakandan King T’Challa will have his own agenda during all of this. Contrary to previous rumors, the Panther won’t fill the role of Spidey from the comics (obviously), but the character will still be significant to the plot.

Finally, the inciting incident of the whole story will be modified greatly. In the comic, the New Warriors attempt to apprehend a villain, but they actually end up causing over 600 deaths and prompting the government to institute the Superhuman Registration Act. In the movie, the catalyst for registration is two-fold. First, former S.H.I.E.L.D./current HYRDA agent Brock Rumlow AKA Crossbones goes on a killing spree in costume and this incident is what triggers the SHRA. Then, the Winter Soldier enters the conversation when he has shown the ability to be both a hero and a villain in the past. Once Tony and Steve start asking, “If there is a threat – should the Avengers show up? Is it their place to do so? What gives them the authority to do so?”, their answers cause a rift and find Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on opposing sides.

Naturally, these reports should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if they are true, a lot can change between now and the film’s release date. But if these details prove to be on the level, what do you think of them? Are you surprised by which characters side with Captain America and which side with Iron Man? How do you feel about Crossbones’ role in ‘Captain America: Civil War’? And do you think that any other Avengers will get involved? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
