Do you sense that? This is what some people call déjà vu. It appears that Bryan Singer is stacking the deck full of new mutants once again, except this time it’s for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Aside from seeing many stars like Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult reprise their roles from past films, a few new stars have been announced for the cast like Oscar Isaac as the titular villain and Ben Hardy in a currently undisclosed role. But in addition to those new cast members, there are a number of fresh faces portraying old X-Men favorites. For instance, we’ll see Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. But now one more name can be added to that category thanks to the addition to one of the most popular characters from ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’

Just like his other casting announcements, director Singer took to his social media accounts to reveal the latest member of the X-Men to join the follow up to ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. According to his Instagram, newcomer Lana Condor has been cast in the upcoming 20th Century Fox film. She’ll be playing Jubilee, an Asian American mutant teenager with the power to generate bursts of “fireworks” from her fingertips.

I’d officially like to welcome our newest mutant #JubilationLee, #Jubilee @LanaCondor to #XMEN #Apocalypse

Created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silverstri, Jubilation Lee first appeared in ‘Uncanny X-Men’ #244 in 1989. She frequently tagged along with Wolverine as a sidekick, but in the years following, she broke out from the X-Men and joined teams like Generation X and the New Warriors. But after the events of M-Day that left her depowered, Jubilee became a vampire (seriously) and an adoptive mother to an orphaned baby named Shogo.

Previously, Jubilee popped up in X-Men movies in extremely small cameo roles played by Katrina Florece in ‘X-Men’ and Kea Wong in ‘X2: X-Men United’ and ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’ In fact, she might have only appears in deleted scenes in at least one of those movies. But now that Singer is taking the time to announce her casting prior as part of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ hopefully we’ll see her take a larger role than before in the live-action X-Men universe.

What do you think about Lana Condor joining the cast of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ as Jubilee? Do you think that the character will have more than a cameo appearance this time around? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
