With the mutant extravaganza that is ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ one might wonder how they will top it with ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘? While we probably won’t be seeing quite as many mutants in the next screen, we do get an idea of the main team we’ll be witnessing as well as some plot details. Bryan Singer and producer/writer Simon Kinberg recently sat down to talk about the film and they had some interesting tidbits that fans of the cinematic films are going to latch onto.

For one thing while the film will be based on the classic ‘Age of Apocalypse’ story line it will only loosely based off of it as the film. According to Singer, the film “won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with.” Kinsberg added, “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than ‘Days of Future Past’ because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”

Another reveal that Singer gave was that while we’re going to be seeing a build up to ‘Apocalyse’ in ‘Days of Future Past’, the film won’t be a staight continuation:

“You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up ‘Apocalypse’. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in ‘Apocalypse’ is that events in this movie made that happen. ‘Apocalypse’ deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”

Clearly Apocalypse would think he was the perfect mutation and that it was the nature of the land for mutants to rise in a survival of the fittest scenario. It would lead to an enslaving of humanity and a rise of a mutant caste system based on power. At least if they at all follow the original story.

What we know about the cast so far is that ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will follow James McAvoy’s Charles , Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, Jenifer Lawrence’s Mystique, and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast. He would also like to include other mutants though that could include the likes of Gambit and Nightcrawler. No word of Wolverine here but it would be hard to fit him in with the current timeline. Of course, with the upcoming film that would be easy enough to change.
