The cast for Showtime’s upcoming return to ‘Twin Peaks‘ is getting a little bigger as Kyle MacLachlan‘s (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ ’Believe’) Agent Dale Cooper now has two old friends ready to stop in. In the series’ return we’ll see Sheryl Lee (‘Vampires,’ ‘Winter’s Bone’) reprise her role as the prom queen Laura Palmer and Dana Ashbrook (‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me,’ ‘Return of the Living Dead II’) return as her boyfriend Bobby Briggs. We don’t know if the two will have retained their relationship after all of these years or if they will be reintroduced once again here as she may have been out of his life since the series finale.

The news was broken at the Twin Peaks UK Festival and you can hear it live at the Q&A below.

For those who are familiar with the series you should be interested in how why she is returning though I suspect it will be related to Cooper’s return. Spoilers ahead!

For those new to the series we saw that Palmer had died in the pilot episode which is why Cooper was there to investigate in the first place. She also made an important appearance in the Black Lodge at the original series’ closure.

With David Lynch back to direct all nine episodes of the series with Mark Frost co-writing it, fans are really going to be in for something special. It’ll be interesting if any of the above characters end up in the upcoming novel ‘The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks‘ which is set to help bridge the 25 year gap between the seasons.

You do have to wonder if her return will be as more visions to Agent Cooper or if we’ll once more be in the Red Room. I’m almost at a loss on a particular reason to bring her back, but that is the beauty of the writing on this show is sure to give us something new and unexpected.
