It’s time for a damn fine cup of coffee as Kyle MacLachlan (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ ’Believe’) is officially returning to Showtime’s upcoming ‘Twin Peaks’ to reprise his role as Agent Dale Cooper! While we might find out a bit of what has been going on in the time frame between the series going off the air and the new one starting up in the upcoming novel ‘The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks,’ at the very least we know that Dale Cooper has survived and will be back. I’m really hoping that the novel will tide us over until the 2016 release of the new series.

Here is David Lynch’s Tweet that is welcoming MacLachlan back to the series! Just look at that style, and mug of coffee!

Premiering in 2016 (on the 25th anniversary of when ‘Twin Peaks’ finished its run on ABC), we’ll have a 9-episode series of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s iconic series and MacLachlan will topline the new show. Currently Lynch and Frost are writing and producing all of the episodes with Lynch directing the first season of the series.

The announcement came as a surprise at TCA as MacLachlan came out on stage to the ‘Twin Peaks’ theme and offered Showtime’s David Nevins a mug of coffee with his famous “Damn Good Coffee” catch phrase before saying the following:

I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you.

You can see what the scene looked like below!

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as a previous tweet actually hinted that this discussion was in the works. Here is what he had to say quite offhandedly last October on the subject.

At this time we have no solid leads on who else may be returning to the series or the new faces that will be added to the cast.

Set two decades after the original series and actually taking place in the same time period we’ll have a lot of old plot threads to tie up as well as new ones to explore.
