With the latest trend being to get away from reboots and continue on now defunct horror properties, it sounds like we may just be seeing ‘Blair Witch 3.’ We already know a new installment of ‘The Ring’ and ‘Halloween‘ are coming, so it should be no surprise that the film that put found footage shaky cam movie on the map wants to return as well. In a recent interview, director of the original ‘The Blair Witch Project’ Eduardo Sanchez (‘Lovely Molly,’ ‘Altered’) was asked what his thoughts were about continuing the franchise. Here’s what he had to say:

“The film seems inevitable to me, but really it’s just a matter of it being the right time. I’m thinking it’s going to happen sooner than later at this point, but I always say that. There’s always rumblings and certain ideas being pushed around and such. While I don’t have anything firm to talk about now, it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened within the next year or two.”

While this could be taken with a grain of salt, a year ago he said almost the same thing but now things seem to be starting to move forward on Liongate’s side. Still, he feels they can go back to the source material from the first film and bring up what they had originally created as the focus of things moving forward.

I’m thinking that for this film to work, they would not only have to come up with an original premise but not make the next installment a found footage movie.

Would you be excited to see Sanchez return to Burkittsville and the possessions and tone of the first film? Share your thoughts below!
