With most of the casting having just been announced for DC’s upcoming film ‘Suicide Squad,’ it was only a matter of time before they announced who would be playing the woman who puts the team together, Amanda Waller. Now the casting is done and it looks to be Viola Davis (‘Ender’s Game‘,’The Help’) who has been signed on to take the role. Helmer David Ayer just keeps getting more talent to direct in the film and hopefully he is able to juggle all of the characters enough to not put any of them in the background.
Currently Davis is extremely busy with her recently released and quite successful series ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ so she’ll have to be able to make her schedule be pretty open to star in the film.
In the DC Universe we classically see Amanda Waller as the prison warden and person that is in charge of the ‘Suicide Squad.’ She is a former congressional aide and government agent that has been put in charge of the project and has no qualms on what kind of wet work that they become involved in. The team is a government run program that takes former supervillains and lets them work towards freedom or in some instances has them working with a threat of being killed off if they don’t comply with being an active member.
Davis is joining a star studded cast which includes Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith on board as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress. Rumor also has a potential appearance by Jesse Eisenberg’s’s Lex Luthor character from ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’
