When ‘Ant-Man‘ was looking for a new director, Adam McKay (‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’,’Step Brothers’) was on the short list of who they wanted to helm the film. While he didn’t end up helming the picture, it sounds like he might be a contender for a future film.

McKay did stick around long enough on ‘Ant-Man’ to help handle the script so he absolutely has an in with the studio and in a recent interview he mentioned that he would love to make a movie with Marvel.

Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t these days?

Knowing that you pretty much need the highest S.H.I.E.L.D. access to know what anyone over at the studio is up to until they give the word, McKay didn’t say much. What he did say though was:

“I’m starting to get into the early stages with Marvel. I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.”

While there isn’t much to go on we do see him saying “one of the characters” so it wouldn’t be an ensemble piece. Also with his previous work pretty strictly rooted in comedy, it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve had a director switch from what they are used to. As a comic book fan and someone with experience working with Marvel, there are a large range of characters McKay could be to doing. With ‘Thor 3‘, ‘Black Panther’, and ‘Inhumans‘ already somewhat in the works, they are most likely spoken for. That could leave things open to ‘Black Widow‘, ‘Captain Marvel‘, or the stand alone ‘Hulk’ movie aside from anyone else they’ve been teasing us with as well one of the Netflix shows.

Thinking about it, there are a couple options on the Netflix front which could pan out.

What character do you think he would be best suited for on the current rumor mill? If not them who would you like to see him tackle for a stand alone flick? Share your thoughts below true believers!
