We recently heard that Lifetime was ordering a pilot for ‘Damien and now it seems it’s to be going straight to series!

With Lifetime investing big on horror themed content, I was at first a little skeptical, but with how much I enjoyed ‘The Lottery,’ I am eagerly looking forward to giving this a try. Now, at this time only six episodes have been ordered but with AMC also having short first seasons before risking longer ones, I am not at all concerned about it.

I am especially not concerned as Glen Mazzara from ‘The Walking Dead‘ fame is going to be the showrunnner on this project. Mazzara is on board with executive producers Ross Fineman and Pancho Mansfield. The series is set to take place quite a few years after the original 1976 horror masterpiece, ‘The Omen.’ We will be following the events that occur in Damien Thorn’s adulthood and we’ll see that he has grown without knowledge of who and what he is, though as he finds out, he has to confront his destiny to be the Antichrist.

According to Lifetime executive vice president Rob Sharenow, “We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen. Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original.”

Nancy Cotton, FTVS senior VP of Programming chimed in that “The Omen is a jewel in the crown of the Fox features library; we’re gratified and eager to bring a new iteration of Damien and this iconic story to television — and to a new audience — through the vision of Glen Mazzara.”

As this is a film to television continuation and not a reboot like so many other series announcements, I won’t be ranting on the concept. While a few movies have already addressed this in various aspects, I’m curious what direction they’ll be going here. With Mazzara on board I have high hopes for this one and we’ll see if they can pull off a natural transition from the first film.
