With Amazon greenlighting a full season order of ‘The After‘ one might wonder where ‘The X-Files’ creator Chris Carter wants to take the series? Well with a 99-episode goal and basing it around ‘Dante’s Inferno,’ he clearly wants to take it pretty far! With the first season order only having 8 episodes, he is either going to need a few longer seasons kicking in to accomplish that or plan for nearly 12 seasons to reach that number.

As mentioned above, Carter is basing ‘The After’ off of ‘Dante’s Inferno’ and that story has 99 cantos in it. According to Carter he is “using that as my model” so that is where the 99 episode break down is coming from. The show will be released in 2015 and unlike Netflix shows or other Amazon shows such as ‘Transparent,’ we’ll be seeing ‘The After’ released in four two-hour installments.

“Amazon is going to show these an episode at a time,” he said, “which I think is really good for this type of show. The audience likes to tease the clues out.”

Not only that, but it appears that Carter is thinking involving social media and wants to utilize Twitter and other platforms to give extra content for those who enjoy getting more out of their stories. He said that “Now, there are really interesting opportunities with technology to tease these clues out.” This can be a great setup for those who enjoy getting a more immersive story.

While Carter usually likes to call his shows drama and ignore other titles, he chimed in that “”from the group dynamic and from the supernatural, if you will, I’ve always resisted the science fiction label but there’s a significant number of science fiction in this.”
