While the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ film is clearly about Star-Lord putting together his team, the movie will also be featuring Yondu, Kraglin, and The Ravagers who are shown off in these early images. While we know Peter ends up stealing an orb that everyone else in the movie wants to get their hands on, we’ve seen in all of the trailers for the film that the events are actually put into motion by Quill’s surrogate father Yondu Udonta who is played by Michael Rooker.

Rooker actually had some time to sit down and add a few details about the man who took Peter from Earth and set him on this course.

“[Peter is] feeling lost, vulnerable, defeated, emotionally drained and hurt, and here is Yondu in this light coming down and brings him up into the spacecraft and takes him away. It might have been pretty horrific, but also a bit cool. [Yondu is] not a good guy, not a bad guy… It’s not so black and white — I should say blue and white.”

In the shots we see Yondu and his first mate Kraglin who is actually played by Sean Gunn (the director’s brother). Previously the director described Kraglin’s character as “Peter Quill’s lifelong frenemy” and if he can keep up with what we’ve seen of Quill in the early previews, the two of them together should be hilarious to listen to. At the beginning of the film we see that The Ravagers are comprised of Yondu, Peter, and Kraglin who are the equivalent of a biker gang in space. With all of the Guardians being ex-prisoners it should be one hell of a wild ride!

Long time fans of the characters, are you OK with the changes to Yondu and Kraglin? Do you think they’ll be a good fit in the film or are we already seeing too many characters when you mix in The Ravagers, The Guardians of the Galaxy, the Nova Corps, Thanos, Nebula, Korath, and Ronan the Accuser?
