We already know that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back to the Terminator franchise in the upcoming film ‘Terminator: Genesis‘, and it now looks like we’re going to get some more returning characters as well. While this is still considered to be in the rumor category, it’s from a source that apparently has been extremely reliable in the past. While we know Emilia Clarke (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Spike Island’) has been cast as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke (‘Zero Dark Thirty’,’The Great Gatsby’) as John Connor, and Jai Courtney (‘I,Frankenstein‘,’Divergent’) as Kyle Reese, thanks to time travel we’re going to be getting quite a few of the other original characters thrown into the mix.

We’ve previously heard that the film was going to be a reboot more in line with ‘Star Trek’ though now it sounds more along the lines of ‘Back to the Future Part II’. What is meant by that is we’ll be seeing the characters in this film interact with events that have already occurred much as Marty and Doc had to revisit the events that happened in the first film. That means in ‘Genesis’, we’re going to get some tributes of both characters and events that were previously seen in the first two ‘Terminator’ films.

If this is true there are some huge specific spoilers below.

From the first film we will see a Terminator from the future return to Earth and attack some street punks (including the one played by Bill Paxton) and slowly start killing various women named Sarah Connors while trying to find the correct one. Characters such as Lance Henriksen’s Detective Hal Vukovich, Paul Winfield’s Lieutenant Ed Traxler, Bess Motta’s Sarah’s roomie Ginger and Pugsley the Iguana will all be making appearances! No word on who will reprise these roles or if any might even have the original actors age regressed using CGI (which would be pretty awesome but is just my own wishful thinking). While this will involve Schwarzenegger back on his hunt for Connor it looks like Kyle Reese and Sarah will have something different play out from the original film in order for the timeline to change.

That’s quite a bit right there already but we’ll also see a revisit to ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’! In this era we’ll see a T-1000 in the guise of a cop kill John Connor’s foster parents. There will apparently also be several other not yet mentioned key moments from the film.

Of course with time travel we aren’t going to just revisit the known history of the ‘Terminator’ franchise. They will also be giving us a view of a young Sarah and her parents that will be important to the timeline. While we don’t know why we are going to be revisiting all of these scenes quite yet, we do know that with things going differently we’re going to have a huge change in the post apocalyptic future that we’re used to seeing.

With revisiting all of these timelines it should be fun for the cast that they put together. Specifically for the one star we know is reprising his role. How excited is Schwarzenegger about the film? Here’s what he had to say:

“We start filming in the middle or in the end of April and it will be a four or four-and-a-half month long shoot. We will be filming it in New Orleans with some of it in San Francisco and maybe a little of it in LA but most of it will be done in New Orleans. I’m really looking forward to that because as you know, the last time when they did the Terminator, it was when I was Governor and so I couldn’t be in that movie but now I’m back again and they are very excited about having me in the film… The script is fantastic so I’m really looking forward to this film.”

What do you think of revisiting key scenes from the past movies? Is this going to just be a gimmick that tries to get fans of the older movies back in the theaters or are we going to get a fresh new take on the storyline that sets us up for the future two? Share your thoughts below!

‘Terminator: Genesis’ is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2015.
