20th Century Fox is looking to diversify with its X-Men license and right now, beyond ‘Deadpool 2‘, that fate rests on ‘New Mutants’ a film adaptation of the very first ‘X-Men’ spin-off comic book title… well, not counting ‘Dazzler’.  Last year, rumors bubbled up that at least one of these pubescent heroes had been cast and it was a fan favorite — ‘Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair.  The rumor was quickly rebuffed by Williams herself, but with the caveat “Sign me up!”

As she stated at the time:

“I can’t say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, [and] to be a part of the Marvel family. New Mutants looks absolutely incredible and I’ve always loved the idea of spin-offs and [director] Joshua Boone is incredibly talented. So, yeah, sign me up.”

Her ‘GoT’character, Arya Stark is one of the most popular on the hit show, so it would be a natural progression to transition to another genre project.

But has ‘New Mutants’ director Josh Boone added fuel to that fire?  He posted a mock up imaged of Williams as Wolfsbane as rendered by artist Ashley Guillory. There’s no indication that this is in any way officially connected to the film production of ‘New Mutants’.  But Boone did take note to tag Maisie Williams’ Twitter account with the posting.

However, Ashley Guillory is officially working on ‘New Mutants’ having provided animatics of the heroes, which also include Cannonball and Majik battling the Demon Bear which was revealed earlier.

It appears that 20th Century Fox is in flux when it comes to the ‘X-Men’ brand as the traditional movie sequence appears to have wrapped up and with ‘Logan’ due in March, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart’s involvement will be done.  Sure, there’s ‘Deadpool’ but as for now, it appears that ‘New Mutants’ may be a fresh start and it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have an actor like Williams that is already something of a fan-favorite involved.

Would you like to see Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane?  Are you excited about a ‘New Mutants’ movie?
