This week has been ripe with news about the upcoming ‘Terminator’ movie supposedly directed by Alan Taylor. First, it was revealed that the franchise would be returning to television to “follow a critical moment from the first film”. Then, the new feature was dubbed ‘Terminator: Genesis’. Now, it seems that we may have our John Connor for the film.

According to Deadline, Jason Clarke of ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ is currently in talks to play the leader of the rebellion against Skynet. Previously, the role had been played most famously by Edward Furlong in ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’, but also by the likes of Nick Stahl in ‘Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines’, Thomas Dekker in ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’, and Christian Bale in ‘Terminator Salvation’. The Australian actor joins Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson, who are both currently in the running to play John’s mother, Sarah Connor. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also expected to return to reprise his role from the original James Cameron films.

With choices on the table for three of the most important characters in the ‘Terminator’ mythos, that only leaves the Skydance Productions/Annapurna film written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier with the task of finding a new Kyle Reese, the father of John Conner who has been rumored to be included in the film as well.

‘Terminator: Genesis’ is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2015.
