In the early 2000’s TNT had a highly successful made for TV trilogy starring Noah Wyle (‘ER’,’Donnie Darko‘) as The Librarian. It had a very ‘Indiana Jones’ vibe and did quite well for its time. These days, TNT is looking to revive the character and create a television show based around him. The problem is that TNT wants him to reprise his role but Wyle is currently starring in another TNT series, ‘Falling Skies‘.

For this 10-episode series, it’s highly unlikely that Wyle is going to have time to star as the lead for both shows. Thankfully ‘Falling Skies’ fans don’t have to worry! At this time he is only in talks to appear in the premiere episode and just make guest appearances throughout the series past that.

The original trilogy of films had Wyle play Flynn Carsen, a professional student hired to be a librarian for the Metropolitan Library. But his job is not any ordinary librarian job, he was hired to protect historical and often magical items in a secret section of the library. Even the titles have ‘Indiana Jones’ styled names with ‘The Librarian: Quest for the Spear’ released in 2004, ‘Return to King Solomon’s Mines’ in 2006 and finally ‘Curse of the Judas Chalice’ in 2008.

The show will take some of the pressure off Wyle as he will now have a team to go and retrieve artifacts:

“[The series] would center on four ordinary people with extraordinary talents who discover that they have been selected by Wyle’s Flynn to work for The Library, an ancient fellowship of knowledge and heroism. The quartet travels the world investigating strange occurrences, battling ancient conspiracies and protecting the innocent from the dangerous, secret world of magic.”

None of the cast has been announced past that but the films have previously included Bob Newhart, Joan Curtain, Sonya Walger, Kelly Hu, Gabrielle Anwar and Stana Katic.
