After adding three brand new pilots to their schedule for next season earlier this month, The CW has just granted a few early renewals to some of their biggest hits. Previously, news got out that things were looking bleak for ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Carrie Diaries’, ‘Hart of Dixie’, and ‘The Tomorrow People’, and now the latest reports still have those shows as being in jeopardy. Buts fans of five of the network’s most popular shows can rest a little easier.

The CW has announced that their flagship dramas ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Arrow’, long-running fan favorite ‘Supernatural’, and freshmen series ‘The Originals’ and ‘Reign’ would all be returning to the channel with brand new seasons. These renewals really come as no surprise as the Winchester boys logged their most watched episode since 2010 recently and Oliver Queen’s bow-and-arrow badass is the most watched show on the network. As for the citizens of Mystic Falls, their show has steadily been the highest-rated show in all key demographics throughout it’s fifth season.

In regards to the newbies, the spinoff of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ was projected to do terribly due to it’s timeslot against Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ on Tuesday nights at 8:00pm, but it looks like being paired with ‘Supernatural’ cast the right spells for the channel to keep their audience tuning in. Finally, the new period drama following Mary, Queen of Scots, has had it’s ups and downs, but the CW executives are pleased with the show’s creative direction, so they’re giving it another chance.

As we saw from the last article we ran about the CW’s line up, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘The Tomorrow People’ have some very vocal fans on ScienceFiction.com. And while many viewers wouldn’t want to see these shows go, their fates seem to be firmly in the hands of the upcoming shows ‘The 100’ and ‘Star-Crossed’, both of which have some strong buzz coming into the midseason slots. Depending on how well they perform could be the saving grace or the final nail in the coffin for the remaining low-rated shows.

What do you guys think about ‘Arrow’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘The Originals’, and ‘Reign’ getting early renewals from the CW? Do you think that the other shows like ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘The Tomorrow People’ stand a chance of sticking around after ‘The 100’ and ‘Star-Crossed’ premiere?
