For those of you who have been unhappy with the drastic change in the look of Penguin for ‘Gotham‘, some fans should be thrilled that Robin Lord Taylor’s character is going to be putting on the pounds for the fifth and final season of the series. We already know that the upcoming season will introduce Bane, answer some of those Joker questions, introduce Harley Quinn, see Bruce Wayne become Batman, and now it looks like Oswald Cobblepot is going to be gaining some weight and begin looking more like the Penguin we all know. We’ll also likely see the character dressing more in line with how he does in the comics, though many of his suits haven’t been that far off already when he’s worn them.

According to Taylor:

“I can’t spoil anything specific, but definitely, there are parts of the traditional iconography of the Penguin that are coming into play this year. We’ve done everything else with this character it has its own unique twists, and it’s also everything is earned, and everything makes sense this character is turning into the traditional Penguin that we all know and so we see it visually as well as emotionally.”

Will this iconography include some explosive remote control penguins? Probably not but only time will tell. With there being a time jump of over a year this won’t be that much of a stretch to see the evolution into the characters from the comics though as Taylor had also stated, “Like John said, we’re jumping into the future at the end. And so, you’re gonna see a lot of the classic, archetypal-.” At this point the actor was cut off here and asked if the show would be “putting you in a fat suit?” to which he responded “Yes! Yeah, I get chunky.”

The new take on Penguin has been a fantastic one for viewers, and it will be interesting to see if we get a reason for Cobblepot putting on the weight.

Are you happy that Robin Lord Taylor is going to slightly change to be closer in stature to the Penguin that you’d recognize in the comics or previous iterations? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
