This week has been a big week for some of the most anticipated films of 2014. Thanks to the Super Bowl, fans were able to get brand new previews of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’, and ‘Robocop’. Now, Summit Entertainment’s next big young adult franchise has joined the party by premiering a trailer online as well.
Yesterday, the studio released a teaser for the final trailer for ‘Divergent’, the dystopian sci-fi thriller based on the book series by Veronica Roth. With the release coming next month, Summit is pulling out all the stops to avoid and underwhelming performance at the box office, similar to that of ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ from last year. So, to make good on their tease, they have released the trailer for the upcoming trilogy starter featuring Shailene Woodley as she breaks out into mainstream blockbusters after excelling in more independent projects like ‘The Descendants’, ‘The Spectacular Now’, and ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, which drops later this year as well. You can check out the trailer below followed by a synopsis for the film:
In a future where the population is divided by personality types, one young woman classified as “divergent” uncovers a conspiracy to eliminate all who bear her misfit label, and attempts to find out what makes the powers-that-be so frightened of them before time runs out.
Besides ramping up promotion for ‘Divergent’, Summit appears to have high hopes as they have already scheduled release dates for the adaptations of the remaining chapters of Tris Prior’s story. Production on the sequel, ‘Insurgent’, is slated in May for a March 20, 2015 release.
What do you think of the latest trailer for ‘Divergent’? Are you interested in checking out Shailene Woodley’s mainstream breakthrough or is this just another knockoff of ‘Twilight’/’The Hunger Games’/’The Mortal Instruments’/your young adult novel series of your choosing?
