Actor Evan Jonigkeit has revealed that he played The Toad in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘.  There had been no mention of that character appearing previously, but principle filming has already ended.  He indicated that he was playing a younger version of the character, so obviously he’ll be appearing alongside the ‘First Class’ versions of the characters.

When asked about his preparation, he stated “I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool.”

He admitted to being a nerd and an X-Men fan, but when asked about how his character would visually differ from Ray Parks incarnation (which was much more grotesque and… well, mutated than the short, squat jester-suited comic book character) he had to remain mum.  “The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that.”  He did say “It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”

He also stated that this was his first audition after switching to a new talent agency.  Not bad!

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ opens on May 23, 2014, and stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till… and now Evan Jonigkeit.
