Starting with the Blu-ray release of ‘Thor’ back in 2011, Marvel Studios began releasing home video exclusive short films called ‘Marvel One-Shots’ that expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first two explored the life of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent as they followed Agent Phil Coulson on various adventures between movies. Then with ‘Item 47’ and ‘Agent Carter’, they evolved into standalone entities that expanded the MCU and explored areas that weren’t seen on the big screen. Now, with the ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Blu-ray scheduled for a February release, the next One-Shot is just around the corner and we have a title for it.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the new short that will be included on the God of Thunder’s upcoming Blu-ray would be called ‘All Hail The King’. They also shared that it will have a runtime of 16 minutes and 14 seconds. But other than that, no additional details concerning the plot or its cast have been released. Naturally, that leads to much speculation about what this new One-Shot could entail.

Considering the ending of ‘Thor: The Dark World’ (and if you haven’t seen it yet, then this certainly is a SPOILER) where Loki has taken the throne in Asgard leaving the whereabouts of Odin unknown, one might guess that the short would catch up with Loki after Thor relocates to Earth to be with Jane. Or maybe it shows how the God of Mischief dispatched his stepfather and ascended to what he sees as his rightful place. Some explanation of that surprise ending would be great, but there’s also a chance that the short has something to do with 2013’s other Marvel Studios release.

Back in October, word got out that Sir Ben Kingsley was working on a secret Marvel project that would see him reprise his role from ‘Iron Man 3’ as the drug-addicted actor Trevor Slattery that posed as the terrorist mastermind the Mandarin for Aldrich Killian. Some reports indicated that this project involved the real Mandarin taking offense to Trevor’s mockery of his identity and legacy. Does that mean that the king referred to in ‘All Hail The King’ is the real Mandarin? Possibly.

Chances are that we’ll find out sooner rather than later what this Marvel One-Shot is about because the studio is less secretive about these shorts than they are with the features. However, until that information surfaces, what do you think ‘All Hail The King’ will be about? Are you hoping for more Loki or do you see more Ben Kingsley in our future?
