Things are really rolling with ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ (still not the official title).  Hot on the heels of the announcement that Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman and with Variety reporting that The Flash will make an appearance, comes even more news.  Reportedly Callan Mulvey (‘300: Rise of an Empire’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’) is being looked at for a villain role, possibly as Lex Luthor or Metallo.  (Metallo would be a welcome addition, a powerful villain who could actually challenge Superman physically.  Luthor has been a bit over-used.)

Well the latest news is that the studio is looking to reinvent Luthor.  They were hoping for Denzel Washington but that appears to have fallen through.  Now Idris Elba is possibly in the mix.  (I don’t honestly have a problem with this as both actors are extremely talented.)

As for the Justice League, apparently, the approach the filmmakers are taking is a “United Nations” of super heroes, with Superman representing all nations and Batman representing America.  Gal Gadot is an Israeli actress, but traditionally Wonder Woman is from Themyscira and typically has Greek features.  There’s a rumor that The Flash may actually be recast as a foreign character (possibly Latin) in keeping with this theme.

How do you feel about switching up these characters’ ethnicity and nationality?  It worked out well with Michael Clark Duncan as The Kingpin and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (even though that was set up in the Ultimate comics first).

There haven’t been any rumblings so far about Green Lantern, who was rumored a while back as being a lock for a ‘Justice League’ movie.  Henry Cavill wants Cyborg included, so we’ll see if that comes to fruition.  Unfortunately, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman seem to be out for certain.  (Not to mention any additional members.  Sorry Gypsy fans!)

What do you think?
