The Internet was on fire last week when a quote that was uttered by Michael Bay stated that he “wanted the first [three] ‘Transformers’ to be very suburban and less cool. This is a much more cinematic one. I focused on keeping this one slick. There won’t be any goofiness in this one. We went a bit too goofy [on the last one].” The quote spread like wildfire and even we reported on it.

Many attributed the quote to mean he was apologizing for the first trilogy of films, but now Bay is clarifying his comment stating that when he issued it, it was by no means to be an apology for the films in the ‘Transformers’ universe. He was actually talking specifically about the camera work in the film. So he took to his personal blog and addressed this apparent misquote with the following statement:

“No I did not ‘apologize’ for any Transformers movies. I did not say I shot the last three movies “less cool” than the new fourth installment. I was talking specifically about camera style and tone, of the first movie compared to how I shot the new installment with a very big scale, cinematic style. I was very specific in saying the first Transformers was shot in a ‘generic suburbia’ area, not trying to be cool with any cinematic flashes. I wanted it to feel like this could happen in any backyard in the United States.”

So it was all about the “goofy” camerawork. Still. He does end this blog entry by spilling a few key points! The first is that ‘Transformers: Age Of Extinction‘ has finished filming after five and a half months and is currently hitting the editing room. They should have the first visuals released for the Super Bowl in teaser form.

I do kid as I say that as there is something utterly satisfying about giant fighting robots. Yes, there may be too much focus on the humans in these films and not enough personality given to the Transformers themselves, but they are still fun summer popcorn flicks. OK, enough of what I feel though, what is your take on what we’ll be expecting in the newest addition into the series? Are you excited for another round of Baysplosions in the upcoming film? Do you think that he should have apologized for what he’s shown us so far?
