While it seems we know a lot about ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ there is a lot of details that are still in the dark. One of the main ones is that aside from knowing that Evan Peters (‘Kick-Ass,’ ‘American Horror Story’) will be playing Quicksilver in the next film in the franchise, we really haven’t known a lot about him, until now. In a recent interview with io9, Peters had a chance to talk about what to expect from his character in the upcoming film.

The thing about Quicksilver is that he’s one of the fastest mutants in the world. Filming him means that there needs to be a few tricks in making him properly look as if he’s going that fast. How do they pull that off? Well, by filming him in 3600 frames per second! In order to do that, the filming area needs to be really bright. How bright?

“Bright. It was incredibly bright. A lot of the crew and Bryan, himself, got to wear sunglasses. And the actors had to keep their eyes open for a long, long time, with that bright light just blaring at you. It’s like the sun. It’s brighter than the sun. It’s right there in your eyes. But the end result is so worth it. You just power through it.”

Apparently, it doesn’t really hurt, it’s just difficult to keep your eyes open for that long. No matter how much we keep our eyes open, however, we won’t be seeing a picture of Quicksilver anytime soon. All we get to see is a picture of his home and now part of the set:

Talking about the set, when asked how big it was and how things would look like on film Peters responded:

“It’s quite a big room. It’s super, super, super, super slomo. You can see raindrops frozen in the air. Stuff like that. It’s amazing how that camera works.”

The big question about Quicksilver is will he be sporting the hair? And the answer is Yes! Magneto’s son will have matching hair in the film. Though working with Magneto is tricky when we’re having two age groups. Sadly, when asked if he worked with Ian McKellen we found that father and son reunion would not occur:

“No, I worked with Michael Fassbender. And he’s awesome. He’s amazing to work with. I worked with him and Hugh [Jackman] and James [McAvoy]. And… I won’t say any more. I worked with all of them. They are awesome. Seriously, the nicest people in the world, couldn’t have been more welcoming.”

That part is a shame. McKellen’s Magneto seemed to fit more age wise on being his father as well as the fact that most of their interaction in the comics is through an older Magneto. So while the opportunity to work with McKellen didn’t pan out, Peters is very excited about his character. When researching the character of Quicksilver, he found the perfect description:

“I read one of the comics where he says that it’s like waiting at an ATM, when the people in front of you don’t know how to use it. That’s how his whole life is, everybody is so slow to him. And he has the ability to go so fast, he’s just waiting for everybody to catch up. It’s pretty cool, that character trait.”

That actually nails the character down more than anything else that I’ve seen to date. If they are able to have that shine through in the film we’ll be seeing the perfect iteration of Magneto’s son.
