Last month Origin Releasing picked up the film rights to the cult classic novella series ‘Bigfoot War’ and fans of the Sasquatch the world over rejoiced. With a full series to pull from, this is a movie that could easily become a franchise if it follows the heart of what Eric S. Brown has put to paper to date. The ‘Bigfoot Wars’ has the ability to easily turn from one movie into a trilogy if the box office receipts warrant it. It’s not every day you see a movie about a Sasquatch that isn’t in the lets-try-to-find-a-Bigfoot-shaky-cam style these days. Not only is it a different take from that, but we’re also going to be seeing a small town facing off against an army of Sasquatches and not just a single one.
There IS a reason “Wars” is part of the title.
Bigfoot War Book Synopsis
Jeff Taylor was an ordinary boy growing up in the small town of Babble Creek, North Carolina, until one night his life was changed forever when a Sasquatch brutally murdered his family. Taylor fled the town, hoping to leave the painful memory behind. Years later, after two tours of duty in the Iraq War, he’s back in Babble Creek seeking vengeance. Taylor’s lust for the blood of the monster that slew his family sets in motion a series of events that soon has the entire town fighting for its life as a tribe of Sasquatches descend from the forests and hills into Babble Creek to declare war upon its citizens. Babble Creek is about to find out Bigfoot is very real and there’s more than one of the creatures that want to fill the streets with blood…
Now we’ve found that they have their star set in C. Thomas Howell (‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’) in this bloody tale of man vs. primate.
The rest of the class includes: Danny Boaz (‘Exposed’), Juli Erickson (‘Boggy Creek’), Holt Boggs (‘Jericho‘), Billy Blair (‘Machete’, ‘Jonah Hex’). The film is also rumored to star Lance Henriksen (‘Aliens’, ‘The Terminator’, ‘AVP’) and Frederic Doss (‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra ‘, ‘Transformers’).The screenplay duties are handled by Andrea Doss, Frederic Doss, and Jacob Mauldin. Edgen Films and D Zone Films are producing. The film is being helmed by Brian Jaynes (‘Humans vs. Zombies’).
The movie will start filming in mid-August and they are currently looking for a 2014 premiere date.
When one thinks of a creature feature, Bigfoot isn’t usually at the top of the list. Having read half the series I can guarantee that this is one story that will make any fan of monsters quite happy.
