Last week was a big one for Marvel’s future in feature films. Not only did Disney announce two untitled films for 2016 and 2017, but Sony also announced that more installments of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ franchise were on their way in 2016 and 2018. Now, it appears that yet the Mouse House has just announced yet another Phase Three film from Marvel Studios for 2016.
According to /Film, along with the news that Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Cinderella’ would be released on March 13, 2015 came the even bigger news that Marvel added July 6, 2016 to their release schedule.
Phase Three already includes Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ on November 6, 2015 and it’s a safe bet that ‘Doctor Strange’ would occupy one of those currently unclaimed spots, but the other two films could be anything. I had mentioned Black Panther and the Inhumans as other potential candidates, but the report also reminds us that another solo Hulk film, a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel, and a third Thor or Captain America could be contenders as well.
One film that might be out of the running completely for the next phase is ‘Iron Man 4’. Recently, Robert Downey Jr. signed on for more Avengers movies, but not another solo Iron Man flick, which may indicate that the Armored Avenger is done for now in favor of new heroes getting a chance to shine.
While speculation continues to run rampant, many believe that our questions will be answered next month when San Diego Comic-Con rolls around once again. But until then, feel free to share your theories, hopes, and farfetched dreams for upcoming Marvel movies in the comments below.
