When it comes to Marvel movie news, the headlines have been dominated by Phase Two films like ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘Thor: The Dark World’, and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and Fox’s ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. But while these next installments of existing franchises are well under way and receiving a lot of press, there’s another Marvel film waiting in the wings and quietly waiting it’s turn. That film is Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’. While the Comic-Con test reel was leaked for a few hours back in March, we haven’t heard much about the Phase Three film scheduled for 2015. Now, it appears that we’ve received a small update from the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige gives us a small update on the project. As director Wright prepares for the release of ‘The World’s End’, the Marvel executive shares with us that ‘Ant-Man’ is currently in the rewriting stage because it was in the works before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was established. Then, he revealed that we might discover who our Ant-Man will be before the year’s end:

“We’ve talked about various names over the past eight years but as you can imagine they keep changing as time goes by. But towards the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script, which is great and which is very Edgar. He has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one.”

Previous reports indicated that there would be more than one man taking up the mantle of Ant-Man in Wright’s film, so maybe we’ll get a better idea of which of the three characters (Hank Pym, Scott Lang, and Eric O’Grady) will be in the spotlight before the cameras roll on the long-awaited film next year.

Or better yet, maybe we’ll be learning who will be the lead in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man before the end of the year because that person will be popping up in a Phase Two film. There’s no indication at this point if that is the case, but it sure would be awesome if it were.

Since the idea of casting ‘Ant-Man’ is currently in the heads of the filmmakers, who do you think will be given the mantle? One popular opinion is Nathan Fillion, but I say, his ‘Firefly’ co-star Alan Tudyk might be a fitting choice. Share your pick and reaction to this ‘Ant-Man’ update in the comments section.

‘Ant-Man’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 6, 2015.
