After the drama of James Gunn being fired from Disney’s Marvel Studios has died down we’ve seen that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ was put on an indefinite hold. While the movie is still going to be made using Gunn’s script it has been a sore point for many fans though it sounds like some of the cast are still thrilled to release the film. While Karen Gillan’s name was on the open letter from the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ cast to Disney Studios to re-hire James Gunn, she does still appear to be fully committed to return to the franchise as Nebula. We know that Dave Bautista is only reprising his role as Drax due to being legally required to do so and even with that, would have walked if Gunn’s script for the third film wasn’t used.
However, Gillan makes it sound like at least some of the cast are happy to return for the endcap to this trilogy, and it is because of the love of the fans for these films that they’re ready to come back. According to the actress:
“Our director won’t be with us any longer but we are excited to continue the Guardians of the Galaxy story and keep delivering to the fans. That’s the most important thing. I don’t have any details as to when [the next Guardians film will come out], but there’s a script in existence”
It has previously been reported that Marvel Studios will still be using the script Gunn had put together, so fans at least have a continuation of the story which has kept them coming back for more. It isn’t clear who will be directing the next outing of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ but we’ll likely hear what the company has in store for the cosmic side of the MCU soon.
