Just to get this out right off the bat, if you don’t want to be SPOILED for ‘Man of Steel’, then read no further. This article contains some small SPOILERS for the film, so do not continue if you want to be surprised in the theater. Now, down to business.

Comic book movies are often connected to a larger universe, especially when it comes to Marvel and DC. Often times, a connection to another corner of their world is hidden in the film for fans with a sharp eye to find. For instance, in Odin’s treasure vault in ‘Thor’, you can catch a glimpse of the Infinity Gauntlet, the powerful weapon usually associated with the Mad Titan, Thanos. While some directors aren’t too keen on the idea of including things like that in their film in order to make it accessible to the wider audience, others enjoy the Easter eggs that act as a nod to those in the know (even though they don’t want to overdo it).

The next blockbuster film to make the jump from the comic book store to the silver screen will be Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’, which many hope will relaunch Superman into a shared cinematic universe similar to what Marvel currently has. Though there hasn’t been any official word yet about any other DC heroes getting the major motion picture treatment, many fans (including Henry Cavill) hope that it could happen one day. Just in case it does, the director of Clark Kent’s newest incarnation revealed that there are a few visual treats to look out for that hint at who else is in our hero’s world:

“The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys. I don’t know [if this means they’ll team up]. Everything is interesting at this point. And don’t forget that Lex is out there, doing who knows what…”

So far, the big bad that Supes is meant to dance with is Michael Shannon’s General Zod, but this might be the first time that the Last Son of Krypton’s archnemesis has been brought up in a conversation about ‘Man of Steel’. Could Snyder be setting up for the sequel or a cameo appearance from evil genius Lex Luthor?

And how about that Wayne Enterprises logo? Is this the first step in the live-action Batman/Superman team-up that fans have wanted to see for generations? With that mention of Lex in the same thought, could this mean that Bruce and Clark need to team up to take down Luthor? That’s half the fun with Easter eggs like this! We can speculate away and hope for something bigger to come from it.

Now that you know one little surprise waiting for you in ‘Man of Steel’, are you going to keep your eyes peeled for it? Do you have any theories about what Lex Luthor could be up to while Superman deals with Zod and company? Share with the class in the comment section.

‘Man of Steel’ starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, and Michael Kelly debuts in theaters on June 14, 2013.
