Since Bryan Singer hopped on to direct ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, there’s been a lot of buzz about the returning cast members from ‘X-Men: First Class’ and the original ‘X-Men’ trilogy. However, there has been one new addition to the cast in the form of ‘Game of Thrones’ star Peter Dinklage as the film’s unnamed villain. Now, another new face has joined the fray as the director tweeted recently that Omar Sy, star of the Golden Globe nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, ‘The Intouchables’, has joined the cast.

Currently, no details have been revealed about who the French actor will be playing, but Collider has an interesting theory. They seem to think that Sy could possibly play Lucas Bishop, a mutant refugee from the future who’s been known to dabble in time travel and is recognizable by the large M marked on his face from when he was held in a mutant camp as a child. Though he wasn’t involved in the original ‘Days of Future Past’ storyline, there are some versions of the story where he is inserted into the mix, such as the ones in ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ and ‘Wolverine and the X-Men’. At one point, he’s paired with Storm, so since Halle Berry is “90% sure” that she’s returning, then maybe that’s how they could integrate Bishop into the storyline of the film. Maybe the two end up in an internment camp together in the future and he joins the team.

Or maybe they’ll pull someone super obscure like Maggot, whose powers stem from a pair of slugs that emerge from his digestive system, or Bedlam, who can create electromagnetic fields, and throw them into the mix similar to what Matthew Vaughn did with Darwin and Angel Salvadore.

Bishop

No matter who he plays (although I hope that it’s Bishop), Omar Sy is yet another excellent addition to the cast. He’s received rave reviews for his performance in ‘The Intouchables’, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does in his first major Hollywood release like Singer’s latest X-Men film.

What do you think about Omar Sy joining the cast? Do you think he’ll dazzle audiences once again like he did in his award-winning French film? And do you think he’ll be playing Bishop, a recognizable fan favorite member of the X-Men roster? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and many more is scheduled to be released on July 18, 2014.
