Sony’s original plan to grow the ‘Spider-Man’ universe is pushing forward once again as Christopher Yost (‘Thor: Ragnarok’) has been tapped to pen an untitled Silver Sable and Black Cat movie. It looks as if Venom won’t be the only one of Spider-Man’s villains to have their own film. At this time, like ‘Venom‘, we’re still not official sure if these villains will be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ in any way though The Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit claims that they aren’t.

I’ll go into detail on that first. Sony may have made the best deal for their Marvel properties ever by working Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and are now deciding to limit it by taking Black Cat, Silver Sable, Venom, and potentially many more of the Wallcrawler’s greatest enemies and placing them in their own universe.

According to Borys Kit via Twitter:

Now, this isn’t directly from either studio, so I’m not sure how solid the information is. That being said, he did break the exclusive details, and it wouldn’t be the first time that Sony made a horrible mistake with the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise that cost them boatloads of money.

I suspect that this is going to be the same case and ideally these will all flop so that Sony realizes that to stop shooting themselves in the foot, they just need to work with Marvel Studios.

Onto the movie. As mentioned above, Yost will be typing it which is great news though he is also working on a previous script which Lisa Joy (‘Westworld’) had penned. There is no director yet though Sony is actively looking to try and begin production this Fall. This is likely the “female Spider-Man character spin-off” which had previously been announced. All we know past this is that Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing.

Hopefully, Sony won’t try and make a ‘Sinister Six’ movie as well and put that outside of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

Are you looking forward to a movie based around Silver Sable and Black Cat or is the thought of them not being included in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe ultimately turning you off from the project? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
