Since Bryan Singer signed on to direct ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, he’s been stacking the deck with amazing actors and actresses to round out his cast. Not only does he have people like recent Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult returning from Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 film, we additionally get the vastly popular Peter Dinklage as the main antagonist. The director also has brought Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellan, Ellen Page, and more back into the fray. Seeing all this awesomeness on the same screen is something that all film fans should be looking forward to. However, there’s one pair of actors that likely won’t be meeting in character in the latest installment of the X-Men franchise.

According to the latest issue of Empire Magazine, courtesy of Comic Book Movie, Professor Charles Xavier likely won’t be meeting his older self. In an interview with James McAvoy, the actor revealed that he probably won’t get to appear onscreen with the veteran actor Patrick Stewart, despite their wheelchairs already appearing together. However, that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t like to:

“It’ll be cool, but I don’t think [Patrick Stewart and I] get any scenes together, sadly. I don’t think there’s any future self talking to past self.”

From that quote, one could gather that Fassbender and McKellan won’t appear onscreen together either. Aside from them, there are no other doubles of characters in the cast so far, so it’s assumed that everyone else meeting is fair game, such as Anna Paquin and Jennifer Lawrence. This mother-daughter pair has met on several occasions, but Rogue meeting her Mystique at this age may have different implications than when they met on the field of battle in previous films.

As much as I’d like to see McAvoy and Stewart share a scene, it’s understandable why they won’t. Though I’m no scientist, I understand that if you meet yourself, there could be a paradox and the world could collapse on itself, or something like that. This, of course, is based on my knowledge of the ‘Back to the Future’ series, but if I took into consideration the ‘Doctor Who’ of it all, I’m sure there’s a loophole in there somewhere that would allow both Xaviers to meet.

Are you disappointed that Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy probably won’t have any scenes together in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’? Do you think that Bryan Singer should find a way around the space-time continuum to make it happen? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
