‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Marc Webb tweeted a video featuring an eye from a mask. At first glance, people assumed that it was for a new Spidey suit in the upcoming film starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, but then speculation took a wild turn and talk of Venom and the Black Cat ran wild. Now, we can confirm that it was in fact from the new threads for Peter Parker because Coming Soon has revealed the first full look at the brand new suit.
As indicated from the tweet, the eyes are much larger when compared to the suit from the first film. Additionally, the color of the suit is a bit brighter, the texture is different, and it’s adorned with a new insignia on the chest. Overall, it looks as if this time around, the filmmakers and costume designers decided to go for a more classic Spider-Man look. To be more specific, the new suit bears a striking resemblance to Mark Bagley’s portrayal of our friendly neighborhood web-slinger in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ back when he was working with Brian Michael Bendis on the title.
In the gallery below, you can check out the new suit, along with a similar promotional photo for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ so that you can really see the differences between the two and a shot of Mark Bagley’s version of the classic hero.
Personally, I’m in favor of the more classic look. Though I had no problems with the costume in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, I like that the new one looks more like a spider hanging out on a web. I also like the new eyes. Not only is it more practical for a superhero’s mask to allow for maximum peripheral vision, I just think it looks a lot cooler. Finally, (and this is so minor, but I’ll say it anyway) I like that the red on the shoulders is wider and extends down the arm more. Again, it’s more reminiscent of the comic version of the hero, and while I’m not against changes in order to make Spider-Man’s world fit into the real world, I like the nods to the source material whenever they can fit in.
What do you think of the new Spider-Man suit? Do you like it more or less than the one in the last movie? Moreover, how does it compare to Tobey Maguire’s suit from the Sam Raimi trilogy? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
