Stargate SG-1 may have ended in 2007, but the franchise continues to live on in many ways. For years, fans have been asking for a video game set in the Stargate universe, and though several were once in development, the majority were cancelled and never saw the light of day.

That is all about to change, as MGM and Arkalis Interactive are currently developing a new iOS title, Stargate SG-1: Unleased. The game will feature an original story penned by Sally Malcolm, who is already well-known by series fans for her tie-in novels Stargate SG-1: A Matter of Honor, The Cost of Honor and Atlantis Rising.

Few details have been given about what we can expect in terms of gameplay, other than the fact that it will be “an original story with interactive elements.” This could mean that we’ll be getting an interactive comic book of sorts, but hopefully Arkalis is developing something along the lines of Telltale Games’ Back to the Future and The Walking Dead adventure games. No specifics have been given about the plot, but Stargate SG1: Unleashed will tell its story through a series of “episodes,” similar to the aforementioned games.

Fans of the series will be happy to know that the original voice cast has signed on to lend their voices to the game. While it may not be a proper reunion, just think of the game as another season to one of TV’s most-loved sci-fi shows. Stargate SG-1: Unleashed is set to release for iOS on March 7, with an Android release shortly after. Check out the trailer below:
