Next month, Disney will be continuing the trend of fairytale reimaginings by tackling a prequel to L. Frank Baum’s beloved ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. Sure, it’s not the tale from Oz that fans have been looking to see next (:cough:’Wicked’:cough:), but discovering the origins of the wizard in ‘Oz The Great And Powerful’ could be fun.

After about a week since the epic Super Bowl trailer was released, Yahoo has released the first behind the scenes featurette for the film. It takes a very in depth look at the creation of the look and style of the movie by spotlighting the contributions of director Sam Raimi, production designer Robert Stromberg, and costume designer Gary Jones. The whole thing is accented by interviews with cast members such as James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Zach Braff. You can check out the video below, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.

They certainly cram a lot into two and a half minutes! I especially enjoyed the little section on the creation of the Wicked Witch of the West. Though some people may still hold animosity against Raimi for ‘Spider-Man 3’, you can’t say that he didn’t do a superb job in bringing Oz to life, at least in the recent trailers and such we’ve seen so far.
