The new official teaser trailer for ‘Defiance’ aired for the first time last night on the Syfy channel and if anything, it shows that this hybrid show/game will contain a lot of action.
Both the game and the show will be chronicling the events on Earth as seven alien races begin to move onto the planet. When negotiations among the races don’t go well, a war breaks out.
‘Defiance,’ the game, premiered at last year’s E3 Expo to select press outlets and the first PvP gameplay was shown at Gamescom last week. The series will star Grant Bowler (‘True Blood,’ ‘The Cape’), Jamie Murray (‘Warehouse 13’), Julie Benz (‘Angel,’ ‘Dexter’), Tony Curran (‘Doctor Who,’ League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’), Graham Green (‘Dances with Wolves’), Fionnula Flangan (‘Lost’), Mia Kirshner (‘Not Another Teen Movie’) and Stephanie Leonidas (‘Mirrormask’) and have avatars of the actors within the game itself.
Because both platforms will exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story of the series. To see how the two will look, Syfy has integrated both concepts into the short TV spot that can be seen below. The commercial has some great new footage of the series which will premiere sometime in April 2013.
Ever since the announcement of this concept, I’ve been very curious to see how the two will work. I’m actually hoping Syfy and Trion are able to pull this ambitious concept off as it can open doors for other viewer driven storylines on other shows.
