The cast of ‘Game of Thrones’ is one of the largest on television today. Since the crew started filming the new season, we’ve gotten word of at least 15 new cast members, including ‘Misfits’ star Iwan Rheon potentially filling the role of Ramsay Snow. Now, another king has been added to the mix.
According to Collider, Ciaran Hinds has joined the hit HBO show as Mance Rayder, a former member of the Night’s Watch and the leader of the Wildlings. When we last left Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, he was being brought to the King Beyond The Wall who has been uniting forces to march on Westeros. This king has been largely a mystery to fans of the show, as he has only been briefly mentioned in passing, but now Hinds will bring the character to life in the upcoming season.
Previously, the Irish actor has been seen recently on the big screen in ‘John Carter’, ‘The Woman In Black’, and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’. He’s also no stranger to the premium cable channel as he was Gaius Julius Caesar in ‘Rome’. Hinds joins ‘Game of Thrones’ as the second ‘Rome’ alum to enter the world of George R. R. Martin, the first being Tobias Menzies (who played Brutus), who will play Catelyn Stark’s brother Edmure.
Season 3 of ‘Game of Thrones’ airs on HBO starting on March 31, 2013.
