Just as they did last year with ‘Grimm‘, NBC will be making the pilot episode of ‘Revolution’ available for viewing before the official premiere date in September. But even before that, they will be airing a special 6 minute teaser during the Olympic Games coverage.

The tactic worked well last year which enabled ‘Grimm’ to have a massive presence in the social media world when its premiere episode became available on Twitter. With viewing numbers to be astounding during the Olympics (which just happens to be airing on NBC), the network plans to air the 6 minute teaser on Saturday, August 4th at approximately 10:54PM ET following the swimming competition that will hopefully feature Michael Phelps going for another gold medal. The network will then have the full pilot episode available to view on several platforms including Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, Xbox, and NBC.com among others.

You may recall that ‘Revolution’ takes place in the US 15 years after the sudden disappearance of electricity. While some may wonder about the realism of the premise of the show (after all, how can all types of electrical power suddenly disappear without alien intervention?), director Jon Favreau and executive producer/creator Eric Kripke teased that yes, theoretically, their dystopian future can actually occur.

“The laws of physics seem to have changed,” says Favreau. Kripke explains, “It’s about electricity so it’s about anything that throws a spark, anything that carries an electric charge (is gone). Everything expands from that — which means batteries, spark plugs, engines and everything.” He continues on to say that they actually brought in a physicist into the writers room to verify the series’ plausibility. “… We did our homework, and we came up with something that actually is quite possible,” says Kripke. “We pitched him the secret as to why all of the power went out, and his face just lit up. He said he never considered it but it is possible.”

Now I’m really curious to see if they will disclose their scientific theory but if anyone has an idea of what could cause the loss of electricity throughout the Earth, then please share!

For more insight about ‘Revolution,’ here’s the official synopsis:

Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why?

Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down, the lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it?

On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman’s life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.

‘Revolution’ will air Mondays on NBC at 10PM ET/PT beginning September 17th.
