‘Gotham’ has found its male lead star for the pilot in its British TV and stage actor Barry Sloane.

Sloane is well known in the UK for his roles in the British soap operas ‘Hollyoaks’ and ‘Brookside.’ Most recently he starred in the series ‘Holby City’ as Kieran Callaghan and just finished filming the movie thriller ‘Penthouse North’ set to be released sometime this year.

Gotham‘ centers on a female cop named Annie Travers (role has yet to be cast) who, after pursing an unsolvable case, discovers a magical world that exists within New York City. Sloane will play Boyo, a detective from the magical world who ends up being partnered with Annie.

The pilot was written by Michael Green who has also written for ‘The River’, ‘Kings’ and ‘Heroes’ and will be directed by Francis Lawrence (‘I Am Legend’, ‘Touch‘).

Although it doesn’t say, ‘Gotham’ sounds like it will be a procedural show but it’s unclear whether the crimes crossover from the real to the magical world and vice versa. As I enjoy watching ‘Grimm,’ I’m hoping that this pilot won’t just be “‘Grimm’ with a twist” but something new altogether.
