Not only is the break between seasons of ‘Westworld’ already massive– about a year and a half– but now HBO has added even more bad news.  Season 3 will only be comprised of eight episodes, versus the ten for the first two.  One potential saving grace is that ‘Westworld’ episodes aren’t limited to a certain length.  While most are about an hour-long, that’s also without commercials, so they are longer than most “hour-long” dramas.  The season finales have been 90-minutes long, while the series premiers have been about an hour and ten minutes long, as have a couple of other random episodes.  It’s safe to assume that the premier and finale will be extra long, but there is also the possibility that some other episodes may also run over an hour.  That’s not a guarantee, but here’s hoping.

At the end of last season, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) escaped into the real world, a futuristic version of Los Angeles, and as we’ve seen in the trailers, she runs into Aaron Paul as Caleb, a new character who is a down-on-his-luck construction worker.  Meanwhile, Maeve (Thandie Newton) finds herself in a World War II section of the park.

As co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan said in July:

“This is season is a little less of a guessing game and more of an experience with the hosts finally getting to meet their makers… I love shows that find a groove and hang with it for 100 episodes — that was never this show.  We always wanted every season to find our characters in radically different circumstances. And with a cast this talented, watching the metamorphosis of all these characters is one of the most fun parts.”

In addition to Paul, ‘Master of None’s Lena Waithe has joined the cast, along with Kid Cudi.

‘Westworld’ Season 3 is due to arrive in the first half of 2020.
