Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ continues to fill out its cast with Laysla de Oliveira added as the newest series regular, and Kevin Alves in a recurring role. De Oliveira most recently appeared on FOX’s ‘The Gifted’ as the mutant Glow. She has also appeared on ‘Covert Affairs’, ‘Nikita’, and ‘iZombie’, and will be seen in the upcoming time travel feature film ‘Needle in a Timestack’. Alves appeared on ‘Shadowhunters’ as the werewolf Bartholomew “Bat” Velasquez and has also been seen in ‘Warehouse 13’, ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’, ‘The Expanse’, ‘Saving Hope’, and ‘Chicago Fire’.
On ‘Locke & Key’, de Oliveira will portray Dodge, who is described as “a beautiful, unpredictable and sinister demon in human form that torments the Locke family.” In the comics, Dodge is the force that drives the entire series, setting up the conflict between the demonic realm and the mortal world. Dodge is capable of shapeshifting in order to assume new identities in an effort to collect all of the powerful keys hidden within Keyhouse.
Alves, however, will play a character that does not originate in the comic book source material. His character, Javi, is described as “the colorful life of the party who doesn’t take life too seriously. He does his best to try to persuade new friend Tyler Locke to do the same.”
Tyler Locke is the eldest of the Locke children, who are all moved into Keyhouse, their father Rendell’s ancestral home in a small town in Massachusetts after, Rendell is killed during a violent home invasion. Connor Jessup will play Tyler.
The cast also includes Darby Stanchfield as Nina, the matriarch of the Locke family, Emilia Jones as Kinsey, Tyler’s younger sister, and Jackson Robert Scott as the youngest Locke child, Bode. Asha Bromfield will star as Zadie and Zoe Wells, with Griffin Gluck as schoolmate Gabe, Petrice Jones as horror movie buff Scot Kavanaugh, Sherri Saum as teacher Ellie Whedon, Kolton Stewart as captain of the hockey team Brinker Martin, and Steven Williams as another educator Joe Ridgeway. Bill Heck was reported as being in negotiations for the role of Rendell.
‘Locke & Key’ is based on the IDW comic book series of the same name, created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. It appears that the Netlix show is getting close to production. If so, it is possible that it may arrive before the end of the year.
