Game of Thrones

Don’t worry, literally nothing is revealed in the latest ‘Game of Thrones’ teaser, but it does capture the general vibe of the upcoming eighth and final season, with Westeros caught between the forces of ice and fire.  The final battle is said to be the most epic event ever shown on TV, as the forces of good, led by Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and her dragons, make their stand against the Night King and his army of the dead.  But even with this common enemy encroaching, the other forces of Westeros are still fighting for power.

That is symbolized in the new teaser, as The Painted Table at Dragonstone is engulfed by ice on one side (including a statue of a wolf) and fire on the other (cue Lion statue).  HBO unveiled this new clip at the Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in São Paulo, Brazil.  Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss were in attendance as were Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly).

There are no clips at all from the actual show, so don’t worry about spoilers.  This is all meant to build hype and excitement.

The eighth and final season consists of a slim six episodes, but reportedly they are all extra-long, expanding beyond the regular 60 minute format.

And HBO knows what side of its bread is buttered on and there is at least one prequel on its way, with the very strong possibility of more.  Of course, any spinoffs that arrive will be somewhat free-standing with few connections to the present show.  And the characters from the source series will most likely not return for any new installments.  In fact, the first series confirmed is said to take place thousands of years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’.

The final six episodes of ‘Game of Thrones’ will light up HBO in April of 2019.
