‘Gotham’ continues to develop at Fox, which was announced as focusing on James Gordon as he investigates the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne and confronts the colorful villains of Gotham City.  It was also announced that a young Bruce Wayne would be a series regular.

Fox chairman Kevin Reilly, announced “The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12 years old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale).”  He also mentioned appearances by The Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin. “We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge.”  That sounds like we’ll actually see these characters as younger people that haven’t fully blossomed into the villains they will eventually become.  Especially in the case of Catwoman, who is traditionally romantically linked to Batman.  If Bruce is only ten or twelve, let’s hope Selina Kyle is close to that herself… otherwise she’ll have to change her name to Cougar Woman.  Reilly added, “It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.”

‘Gotham’ has a greenlighted pilot, but Reilly expects it to go on to a full series.  He announced that writing will begin in mid-February and that Danny Cannon is directing.  Bruno Heller is running the show and it should debut in the fall.

Initially, this sounded like a police procedural, but now it sounds more like an origin story.  Or multiple-origin stories.
