ABC is certainly embracing its nerd side! Earlier we shared a clip of Nathan Fillion back in the Serenity Captain’s chair for tonight’s episode of ‘American Housewife,’ now we have a clip celebrating the wonderful movie ‘Spaceballs’ from ‘The Goldbergs’!

In tonight’s episode, after watching ‘Spaceballs,’ Adam becomes a huge fan of all things Mel Brooks. He is so filled with the Schwartz, that even his dreams are set in the ‘Spaceballs’ universe. In this clip, Dark Helmet storms in and Adam is forced to battle with the villain. While fighting, the script for ‘Spaceballs 2’ falls to the floor and the two take a timeout while Dark Helmet explains the plot for the film. So enamored by the pitch, Adam promises Dark Helmet he will make the sequel!

Oh, the dreams of a young mind…

Anyway, while all that is exciting enough, what makes this particular episode so special is that the producers were able to get Rick Moranis to come out of “retirement” to voice the character that helped make him such a ‘Spaceballs’ fan favorite:  Dark Helmet!

Check out the clip below:

Yes, the clip was a bit cheesy but you can’t blame it as the show is set in the 80s, yet that is what makes ‘The Goldbergs’ such an enjoyable thing to watch. And for some, reliving the excitement of seeing ‘Spaceballs’ for the first time though the eyes of Adam (knowing he wasn’t even born yet in real life) makes tonight’s episode that much more endearing to check out.

“The Goldbergs” stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (“Bridesmaids”) as Beverly Goldberg, Patton Oswalt (“Ratatouille”) as adult Adam Goldberg, Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg, Troy Gentile (“Good Luck Chuck”) as Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia (“The X Factor”) as Erica Goldberg, Sam Lerner as Geoff Schwartz, with George Segal (“Just Shoot Me”) as Pops Solomon and Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) as Murray Goldberg and airs tonight at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC.
