Wednesday night is Nathan Fillion night on ABC! If you’re a Fillion fan, then you’ll be happy to hear that tonight you’ll get a double dose of the man on the alphabet network!
First up, Fillion will reprise his role as Haley Dunphy’s weatherman ex-boyfriend Rainer Shine (still loving the name) on ‘Modern Family’ then on ‘American Housewife,’ he dons the brown coat once again as he guest stars as himself cosplaying his ‘Firefly’ character Captain Mal Reynolds in the episode titled “Finding Fillion.”
In the ‘American Housewife’ episode, in order to impress the other moms at school, Katie, Taylor, and Oliver travel to New York to track down Nathan Fillion at a “Firefly” convention, so Katie can convince him to attend the school’s spring gala. As Katie argues with Taylor over her choice of prom dresses, they step into a replica of the Serenity ship and find none other than Fillion in the pilot’s chair.
If that doesn’t get you all excited for tonight’s episode, ScienceFiction.com was granted an exclusive clip from the episode:
“Well, I’m the captain of Serenity and my tummy was getting rumbly so I grabbed a sammy.”
That line alone reminded me how good ‘Firefly’ was and brought up all the resentment I had at Fox for cancelling the show. Why, Fox, why?
Fillion’s guest starring stint on ‘American Housewife’ will last two episodes with his second appearance occurring in next week’s season finale.
While it may not be the ‘Firefly’ reboot we were hoping for, it’ll be great to see Fillion back in the Serenity!
