titans

The ‘Titans’ are together for the first time.  The first set photos from the upcoming Warner Brothers/DC Comics live action series have surfaced, showing Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson/Robin, Anna Diop as Koriand’r/Starfire, Ryan Potter as Gar Logan/Beast Boy and Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth/Raven.  The final product is… different.  It doesn’t appear that the show is following the comics in one respect– the characters’ skin tone.  That is unless they alter Potter and Diop’s appearances in post-production.  But as seen in the photos, Potter’s Beast Boy only has green hair, not skin and Diop’s Koriand’r has regular brown skin instead of golden.  (Also worth noting, in the clap board shown above only two characters appear– Starfire and… Wonder Girl.  A casting description hinted that Donna Troy would appear, but so far that hasn’t been officially confirmed.  Does this image reveal that she does?)

In the first photo, courtesy of Geek Vibes Nation, we get a great shot of Potter and Teagan Croft as Raven.  In addition to Potter’s green locks, Raven appears to have blue, which makes her look an awful lot like the animated version of the character from ‘Teen Titans GO!’.  And look at Beast Boy’s red and white track jacket!  That definitely mimics the character’s comic book costume.

The next batch of pics comes from the Teen Titans Twitter.  In them, you can see all of the ‘Titans’ including Brenton Thwaites (all bundled up) and Anna Diop.

Below you can see Anna Diop in a full-body shot with a shiny purple minidress that definitely brings to mind the character’s outfits from both the comics and the cartoon series.  And you may also notice that Diop’s hair is a magenta tone that matches that of Starfire on ‘Teen Titans GO!’.

And finally, below you can see Thwaites as Dick Grayson in his civilian attire.

“Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others.”

Additional cast members include Lindsey Gort as Amy Rohrbach), Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger/Dove, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall/Hawk, April Bowlby as Rita Farr/Elasti-Girl, Jake Michaels as Cliff Steele/Robot Man, Dwain Murphy as Larry Trainor/Negative Man, Bruno Bichir as Niles Caulder/The Chief and Seamus Dever in an undisclosed villain role.

We do know that the series will feature the villain The Acolyte, Jason Todd, the Maroni Crime Family and Ra’s Al-Ghul, and most likely Trigon.

‘Titans’ will be one of the flagship programs on Warner Brothers’ new streaming service.  No launch date has been announced, but it is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
